Giving Back

Shinar Law, PLC takes great pride in it’s philanthropic efforts in the Kalamazoo and Portage communities.

A lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area, Jim graduated from Loy Norrix High School before attending Western Michigan University. While at Western, Jim worked as a courier for a local law firm, coached a Little League team, was a Big Brother, volunteered for a Juvenile Court diversion program and interned in the Victim/Witness Unit for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Jim has always been involved in community service, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Greater Kalamazoo, West Portage Little League, Pretty Lake Camp, (Past President), Gryphon Place ( where he also served as Co-Chair of the Dispute Resolution Services advisory committee), Kalamazoo County Bar Association (Past President & Advisor for the Kalamazoo County Law and Government Explorer Post) and the Kiwanis Club of Kalamazoo (Past President). Jim is passionate about giving back and continues to do so by providing free legal services to fellow Broncos at the Western Student Association Legal Clinic and by conducting Mock Trials with area 6th graders.
